Young carers are children and young people who look after someone in their family who has a disability, a long term illness, or is affected by mental ill health or substance misuse.
Young carers may look after parents, care for a brother or sister, or another family member.
If you are a young carer your day might include some of the following things:
| Shopping | Cooking & cleaning | Providing emotional support |
| Helping to look after siblings | Managing bills and finances | Providing constant supervision |
| Helping with medication and organising appointments | Helping somebody go to the toilet, dress or wash | Interpreting or using sign language |
If you often find yourself doing these tasks then you are a young carer and we think you’re amazing and want to help! As a young carer, you face more challenges than your friends and that is why we are there to help guide and support you through everything you’re going through.
The Children’s Society have this brilliant video to explain who a young carer is by young carers. The NHS video explains what life can be like for a young carer.
