Young Carers Action Day takes place next week, Wednesday 13th March and we can't wait! Young Carers Action Day is an opportunity for everyone to call for better support for young carers and young adult carers, and to bring about change.
The day is organised and led by Carers Trust, and as a service delivered by Carers Trust Heart of England we are encouraging all organisations, communities and individuals to get involved, take action and help support and raise awareness of young carers.
Fair Futures
This years theme is fair futures for young carers. We are passionate in our believe that young carers should be able to enjoy just as many opportunities and experiences as any other young person. We endeavor to help remove the barriers facing young carers that many of their peers do not have to contend with and Young Carers Action Day is an opportunity for us to shout that little bit louder in support of young carers.
Our Coventry and Warwickshire Young Carers Services have recently teamed up with Coventry University to provide a series of masterclasses, which have helped familiarise young carers with further education, opening their eyes to an exciting and fair future in the process.
Young carers have also been encouraged to discuss fairer futures at group sessions, where they've also taken the time to contemplate their hopes and dreams in life. On the back of these conversations our young carers have started writing down their goals and aspirations for the future, which they will share with us to keep a hold of before revisiting in 5 years time. We are all incredibly excited to be a part of this time capsule activity and can't wait to read through capsules in 5 years time!

“Young Carers Action Day is a hugely significant day for us as we amplify the voices of young people who are helping care for loved ones in addition to everything else that comes with being a young person in terms of schoolwork, revising for exams etc. This year’s theme is fairer futures for young carers which will see us focus on why caring should not be a barrier to learning, earning or being able to get on in life", said Carers Trust Heart of England CEO, Claire Dale.
“In consultation with Carers Trust nationally young carers have said that access to improved support in schools, access to breaks from their caring role, easy access to counselling and financial support would help to make them feel less overwhelmed, healthier, happier and ultimately contribute towards a fairer future. Whilst we aim to support young carers with these issues every day, on Young Carers Action Day, we will be shouting that little bit louder on behalf of young people with care responsibilities."
